assessment Overview
The assessment is an
instrument to help clients better understand their software development
capabilities. Industry best practices are used as a frame of reference for
determining clients’ development and support capabilities.
The assessment is focused on
quickly understanding a client's business model and business drivers and the
current development and support practices such that tangible opportunities
for improvement can be identified that, if implemented, will materially
impact clients’ productivity, timeliness to market, and quality. This style
of assessment differs from many other industry assessments that focus solely
on assessing the state of process management. Another feature of the
assessment is that it is performed in a relatively non-intrusive manner. The
assessment provides clients with an independent perspective of their
capabilities, strengths, and weaknesses, and the basis for implementing
improvements that will make a difference in their business.
Organizational Assessments
Organizational
Assessments focus on multi-project organizations. A line-of business is one
example where lines-of-business are defined as organizational entities composed
of multiple projects that share common business goals. It’s not atypical for a
line-of-business to share architectural elements. Larger organizations (and
whole corporations) are composed of multiple lines-of-business. Small companies
with a laser focus may be equivalent to a larger company’s single line of
business. Such wide variations in scale necessitate that organizational
assessments be bid upon request.

Project Assessments
Projects can be
simple or complex. Simple projects tend to have the characteristics of being
done predominately at a single locale by a team attempting to use one set of
processes. Complex projects are characterized by geographically dispersed
teams where the teams (often different companies) may be using different
tool sets and processes. Such variations in scale necessitate that project
assessments be bid upon request.
