Workshop: Test Strategy Workshop
Most beneficial when done in the Inception Phase as the Test
Strategy affects project schedules and budgets. After a short presentation on
the role of test within a RUP project, a draft Test Strategy will
collaboratively be developed with the Test Director and key team leads. Special
emphasis will be given to testing methods, placement of tests within the RUP
lifecycle, test responsibilities, and any special considerations the
organization places on moving software on to the production floor. At the end of
the workshop, the state of the Test Strategy will be reviewed and team
assignments made to go forward. The workshop is also useful if a draft Test
Strategy exists as an input to the workshop.
Workshop: Creating Test Cases from
Use Cases
Most beneficial done as Test Designers begin to create test
cases from some detailed use cases, typically in the Elaboration phase. After a
short presentation of what test cases are and their relationship to test design,
the workshop will work with Test Designers to draft a manual test case (or test
cases) based on a detailed use case. Strategies for reporting test status will
also be discussed using the facilitated test case as an example. At the end of
the workshop, the state of the test cases would be reviewed and team assignments
made to go forward. This workshop can be repeated for other test cases.
Workshop: Iteration Test Readiness
Review
This workshop can be done prior to the start of any formal
test. The workshop works with the Test Director and team leads to review the
degree to which the team is prepared to start a test. Special attention will be
given to anticipated results, state of the test artifacts, defect management,
version of the unit under test, version of any ancillary test machines, and
configuration management going forward.
Workshop: Iteration Test Lessons
Learned
This workshop can be done at the conclusion of any iteration
test. The workshop works with the Test Team to review what worked and what
didn’t. Special attention will be given to improving team efficiencies going
forward.
